A spherical weather balloon has sprung a leak. The helium inside the balloon is leaking out at a rate of 4 cubic centimeters per minute. How fast is the radius of the balloon decreasing when the the balloon is 100 cm across?

Solution

dV/dt = 4cm^3/min = 4r^2*(dr/dt)

Therefore

(dr/dt) = 4/( 4*(100)^2)

= 3.18*10^-5 cm/min
