use the quadratic formulas to solve equation for x 6x23x150S

use the quadratic formulas to solve equation for x 6x^2+3x-15=0

Solution

Given that

6x2 + 3x - 15 = 0

If the equation is in the form of ax2 + bx + c = 0 then the solution is,

x = [ -b ± ( b2 - 4ac )1/2 ] / 2a

From the given equation a = 6 , b = 3 , c = -15

    x = [ -3 ± ( (3)2 - 4.6.-15 )1/2 ] / 2.6

= [ -3 ± ( 9 + 360 )1/2 ] / 12

= [ -3 ± ( 369)1/2 ] / 12

= [ -3 ± 3 41 ] / 12

= 3 ( -1 ± 41 ) / 12

x =  ( -1 ± 41 ) / 4

Hence,

x =  ( -1 + 41 ) / 4 ,   ( -1 - 41 ) / 4

x = 1.35078 , -1.85078

Therefore,

x = 1.35078 , -1.85078
