Suppose that the functions f and g are defined for all real

Suppose that the functions f and g are defined for all real numbers x as follows.

f(x)=3x-2

g(x)=6x

Write the expression for (f+g)(x) and (f-g)(x) and evaluate (f*g)(3).

(f+g)(x)=

(f-g)(x)=

(f*g)(3)=

Solution

(f+g)(x) = f(x) +g(x) = 3x-2 +6x = 9x-2

(f-g)(x) = f(x)-g(x) = 3x-2-6x = -3x-2

(f*g)(3) = f(3)*g(3) = (3*3-2)*(6*3) = (9-2)*(18) = 7*18= 126
