Management Diagram

One new idea I gained from reading was the in depth description of the management diagram. I learned that being a manager is more than just motivating your employees and setting schedules. This diagram explained the crucial five components of what a successful manager will do. The first and most important is setting objectives. It is absolutely critical that goals are established for the company and employees for the near future. The organizational aspect of a manager is much more complex than people think. Dispersing work loads into manageable activities and choosing specific people with the credentials to do the task is one example. The third piece of the diagram entails motivating and communicating with your group, team, etc. A few specific examples include salaries and promotions. Managers also measure targets and standards to shoot for, then evaluate the performance of the company. The last aspect of the diagram is the development of people, which is imperative for a successful company. As a manager, if you can see the true value of an employee, yourself and the company will thrive and be very successful.

One aspect that resonated with me from the study notes was active listening. I sometimes find myself forgetting the main takeaways from either a lecture or reading right after its finished. In these situations I was most likely just listening, and not really engaging in the material and making connections. I strongly believe that in order to retain material, you must actively engage to whatever is being presented. This can be done by making connections, listening to specific detail, and even viewing something from a different perspective.
