Please type out your answer for the following discussion question. Suppose that f(x) = 3x - 7 and g(x) = 2x + 1. Describe 2 methods you can use to evaluate f(g(2)). Would the answer be the same as g(f(2))? How could you apply composition of functions in more familiar situations, such as one used in Microsoft® Excel®?

f(x) = 3x -7 ; g(x) = 2x +1

So, to find f ( g) (2) :

Method 1 : Find f( g(x) ) = 3(2x+1) - 7 = 6x + 3 - 7 = 6x - 4

f( g(2) ) = 6*2 - 4 = 12 -4 = 8

Method 2 : find g(2) = 2*2+1 = 5

Now find f(5) = 3*5 - 7 = 15 - 7 = 8

So, f (g(2) ) = f(5) = 8
