Here you go

1.        The University of Maryland has made a commitment to reduce the environmental impact of its operations by reducing its carbon footprint. In accordance with that commitment, the University has instituted several transportation-related policies to encourage the use of “green vehicles,” for instance, there are several electric-vehicle recharging stations across the campus and the cost of parking permits has been reduced for those commuting in vehicles recognized as “green” by the Environmental Protection Agency.

Our group decided to see if the campus community was responding to the University’s policy and questioned whether being a commuting student or faculty/ staff member is associated with the use of a hybrid vehicle to commute to the University

write out the null and alternative hypotheses, defining symbols and making inference to the population

-list the statistical test you will be using to analyze the results of the study and the assumptions of that test. DO NOT LIST THE ASPECTS OF A “GOOD” SAMPLE. We will assume the assumptions of the statistical test are met.

-generate ONE graph or table showing the results. If your data set is comparing means, I expect to see a graph with means and error bars (use standard error bars NOT standard deviation bars). If you are comparing you statistic to ‘some value’ have one bar (with an error bar) and then add a reference line to show where the ‘some value’ would occur. You can always use the insert function to add lines, error bars, text boxes etc. If you have bivariate quantitative data I expect to see one scatterplot. Chi Square tests should only be reported with a table (giving both observed and expected values in one table). Make sure your graph or table is labeled fully and has a descriptive legend.

Solution

what kind of statistical test would i try and how would i show the results

I WILL USE A CHI SQUARE TEST TO DO INFERENCES WITH THAT TABLES OF CONTINGENS

so I will do inferences about whether being a commuting student or faculty/ staff member is associated with the use of a hybrid vehicle to commute to the University

and I will show the results on a table or graph it can be a posibility

but I prefer a table , with expected values and observed values

Expected values = (row 1 * column 1 ) / total ; row 2* column 1 / total and so on

Contingency Table

A two-way table (also called a contingency table) is a useful tool for examining relationships between categorical variables. The entries in the cells of a two-way table can be frequency counts or relative frequencies (just like a one-way table ).

The two-way table above shows the favorite leisure activities for 50 adults - 20 men and 30 women. Because entries in the table are frequency counts, the table is a frequency table .
