The determination of Module for each of the mating gears is the most critical parameter. Module is the ratio of Pitch circle dia to number of teeth on gear.

Pitch circle dia is usually decided by the available packaging space and given velocity ratio.

If module is not appropriate, it can lead to gears interference which can make the deisgn noisy and gears rubbing against each other. This will drastically degrade the performance of gears.
