A truck covers 50.0m in 9.50s while smoothly slowing down to a final speed of 3.00m/s.
A) Find its original speed
B) Find its acceleration
A) Find its original speed
B) Find its acceleration

Solution

1.

d = 50 m

t = 9.50 sec

vf = 3.00 m/sec

using the equation

v = u + a*t

u = v - a*t

u = 3 - 9.5*a

d = u*t + 0.5*a*t^2

50 = (3 - 9.5*a)9.5 + 0.5*a*9.5^2

Solving above equation

50 = 9.5*3 - 9.5^2*a + 9.5^2*0.5*a

9.5^2*0.5*a = (9.5*3 - 50)

a = (9.5*3 - 50)/(9.5^2*0.5)

a = - 0.48 m/sec^2 (B)

Now

v = u + a*t

3 = u - 0.48*9.5

u = 3 + 9.5*0.48

u = 7.56 m/sec (A)

A truck covers 50.0m in 9.50s while smoothly slowing down to a final speed of 3.00m/s. A) Find its original speed B) Find its acceleration A truck covers 50.0m
