Q3 2 What is the kinetic ene km l J 1 kg m2s2 9 rgy of a sk

Q3 2. What is the kinetic ene km, l J = 1 kg m2s-2) 9 rgy of a skier weighing 145 lb traveling 70 mph? (2.205 lb-1kg, 1 mi = 1.609 Q4 2. When ammonium nitrate (NH,NO,)( s) is used in explosives, it decomposes to N(g), O(g), and rite a balanced reaction equation for the decomposition of ammonium nitrate, and determine he enthalpy (in kJ) of reaction to decompose 20 g of NH,NO, using standard enthalpies of formation: solid ammonium nitrate -366 kJ/mol and water vapor-242 kJ/mol.

Solution

Q. 3.

Calculate kinetic energy of the skier by using the below formula

K. E. (Joule) = 1/2 mv2

Joule = kg . m2 . sec-2

where m = mass in kg, 145lb = 145/2.205 kg, = 65.76 kg

v= velocity in m/sec, 70mph = 70 * 1.609 km/h, = 112.63 km/h

Convert velocity in m/sec

112.63 km/h will be equal to 112.63 *1000 m/3600 sec

= 31.29 m/sec

Therfore K. E. = 1/2 *65.76 * (31.29)2

= 32191.63 Joules

= 32.19 k Joules
