A bird rests on a high voltage aerial power line with the current 100A. The wire diameter is 20mm, and the bird feet are 10cm apart. What should be the resistivity of the wire material to produce potential difference 10V between bird feet?
Solution
Here ,
current , I = 100 A
radius of wire, r = 10 mm
length , L = 0.10 m
as V = I * R
R = V/I
p * L/Area = V/I
p * 0.10/(pi * 0.010^2) = 10/100
solving for p
p = 3.142 *10^-4 Ohm.m
p = 0.3142 mOhm.m
the resistivity of the material is 0.3142 mOhm.m
