Sex determination in humans starts with the XY chromosomal determination.Males are having one X and one Y chromosome Where as females are having Both the XX chromosomes.

Both the X and Y chromosomes are having similar structure internally.They are having two ducts they are

1. Mesonephric ducts and

2. Para mesonephric ducts.

1. A gene named SRY gene present on the Y chromosome determines the development of gonads in to testis.

2. Testes produces hormones a) Antimullerin hormone ( secreted by the sertoli cells of the tetis)

b) Testosterone ( secreted by the Leydig cells of the testis )

c) Dihydrotestosterone.

3. Anti mullerin hormone causes Paranephric ducts to degenerate and disappear.

4. Testosterone converts the Mesonephric ducts( also known as wolffian ducts ) in to male Accessory structures like epididymis, vasdeferens etc.

In case of females , there would be no production of Testosterone and Anti mullerin hormone.

1. so in the absence of the above named two hormones the Mesonephric ducts degenerate and disappear.

2. Paramesonephric ducts( alo known as Mullerian ducts ) develop in to accessory structure like vagina, fallopian tubes , Uterus etc .
