Determine the current through each resistor and the voltage

Determine the current through each resistor and the voltage drop across each resistor in the circuit below. R_n = n(10 Ohm) and E = 100 V

Solution

R3 and R5 are in series. henc equivalent resistor of these two is R\' then

R\' = R3 + R5 = 30 + 50 = 80 ohm

now R\' and R4 are in parallel connection,

1/R\" = 1/R\' + 1/R4 = 1/80 + 1/40

R\" = 80/3 Ohm

now R\" and R6 are in series,

R\'\" = 80/3 + 60   = 260/3 ohm

now R\'\" and R2 are in parallel connection,

1/R\"\" = 3/260 + 1/20

R\"\" = 16.25 ohm

now R\"\", R1 and R7 are in series,

Req = 16.25 + 10 + 70 = 96.25 Ohm .........Ans

Current through battery, I = V / Req = 100 / 96.25 = 1.04 A

current through R1, I1 = I = 1.04 A

V1 = I1 R1 = 10.4 Volt

I7 = 1.04 A

V7 = 72.8 Volt

V2 = V - V1 - V7 = 16.8 Volt

I2 = 16.8/20 = 0.84 A

I6 = 1.04 - 0.84 = 0.20 A

V6 = 12 Volt

V4 = 16.8 -12 = 4.8 Volt

I4 = 4.8/40 = 0.12 A

I3 = I5 = 0.20 - 0.12 = 0.08 A

V3 = 0.08 x 30 = 2.4 Volt

V5 = 0.08 x 50 = 4 Volt
