At a company ball game, nachos cost $4, and hot dogs cost $6. If the company spent $120 at the game, and bought 25 items, how many nachos and hot dogs did they buy?
Thank you.
Solution
Given that,
Cost of Nachos= $4
Cost of Hot Dogs= $6
Total items bought = 25
Laets assume that x number of nachos and y number of hot dogs were bought.
Thus, x + y = 25 ------ equation (a)
Now also given that total no. of money spent was $120.
Thus, 4x + 6y = 120
=> 2x + 3y = 60 -------- equation (b)
Now multiplying equation (a) by 2 and substracting it from equation (b)
2x + 3y - 2x - 2y = 60 - 50
y = 10 Total no. of Hot Dogs were bought.
putting value of y in equation (a)
x = 15 Total no. of Nachos were bought.
