Name the different types of loads. Define each type of load. For the cantilever beam shown Find the reactions at the supports Draw the shear-force diagram Draw the bending moment diagram

Solution

1. The different types of loads in engineering mechanics are -

Compression - When a load is applied on a component, it gets reduced in size or compresses. During compression load, there is decrease in size and increase in density of a component.

Tension - Tension load is said to be the act of stretching, that is, pulling a wire, rod, bar, spring etc from both ends.

Torsion - Torsion is the act of twisting a rod, wire, spring etc about an axis due to applied torque.

Bending - The change in the form of a component from straight to curved or angular due to application of load is called bending.

Other than these, the different types lof loads acting on structures are -
