Ans - In our Company, the orientation training is comprehensive .... It is basically a eight step process.
On the very first day of the employee , the employee is given a tour facility of the office where essential locations are being pointed out such as Human Resource, their manager\'s office , washroom , cafetaria , lounge rooms , technology support etc. Also, while touring the facility , the employees are introduced to fellow co - workers . The basic idea is to make the new employee acquainted with the new workplace immediately.
Next , employees handbook is being given to the employee. This handbook contains the company\'s rules and regulations. the company\'s benefits , pay duties , paid - time off , work break laws are also mentioned in the handbook. Also, a detailed presentaion is given by the Training Manager on the same mentioned subjects.
Next., the employees reporting manager gives a presentation on the employees goals and how they fit with the overall needs of the company. This is followed by a doubt clearing session between the manager and the new joinee.
Finally , a lunch is being arranged for the new joinee with a select group of co - workers . This makes the employees much more relaxed and they get a chance to learn more about them and about the company\'s culture and get answers for any question the employee has, all while enjoying a meal outside off the office.
To end , the employee is informed of his assigned seat and wish him / her all the best.
So, that is the process followed in the company where i am working. NO, I do not believe that it is a long process because i believe orientation is an important step and it is a ice breaker between the new employee and the company... According to a statistic , an orientation process is the main step which plays an important role in creating motivation for the employees to do better job and work efficiently. Forexample, if the employee is being given put into job straight away without introduction , the employee amy feel very awkward and may be hesistant to ask someone to clear his / her doubts related to work. It may take areal long time for the effective communication to take place between the employee and the company..
I believe during the orientation process , an employee must be also assigned a mentor.. This is because arriving fresh faced to a company is not a comforting situation for any employee. An informal mentor will guide the new employee through their first two weeks with the company. Also, this mentor must evaluate the performance of the new employee and discuss on what he needs to do to be more successful. This review can be done after every 30 days or 60 days for new employees. The main advantage of this review is that it will give a clear view to see how the employees are setting into their roles within the company before the annual review.
