The following figure shows a hydraulic cylinder of a hydraul
The following figure shows a hydraulic cylinder of a hydraulic lifter used to raise a load (W) of maximum value equal to 50 tons. The operating oil pressure is 100 bars. Find the following: the cylinder bore diameter, D. the piston rod diameter, d. maximum length of the piston rod, L. Hard steel bushing diameter, d_B
Solution
Load to be lifted= 50 tons= 50* 907.185 *10 = 453.6 kN
oil pressure = 500 bar= 500* 102 kPa
the load to be lifted acts on to the piston
therefore area of piston= Ap= 453.6/(500*102)= 9.072 mm
Ap= 3.14* d2/4
therefore piston diameter= 3.4 mm
cylinder bore diameter will be just greater than the piston diameter as it must be a clearance fit.
