first of all let me tell you about public key cryptography,Public-key cryptography is a set of well-established techniques and standards for protecting communications from eavesdropping, tampering, and impersonation attacks.Authentication allows the recipient of information to determine its origin-that is, to confirm the sender\'s identity.Authentication is the process of confirming an identity. In the context of network interactions, authentication involves the confident identification of one party by another party. Authentication over networks can take many forms.

before introduction of public key cryptography we had symetric cryptography techniques,individual key would have to be securely transported to every member of the communications network. Any expansion in communications would eventually be choked by the burden of key distribution. If you want to apply symmetric key encryption to a file transfer environment, both the sender and receiver should have a copy of the same key. The sender will use his copy of the key for encrypting the file, while the receiver will use his copy for decrypting it.

so, After introduction of public key cryptography, communication became more secure and efficient. now we dont need to send keys to both the reciever and sender.
