3. Arrange the following four compounds in order of increasing boiling point, and briefly explain your answers: 2-methylhexane, 1-heptanol, heptane, 3,3-dimethylpentane:(5)

Solution

Answer:-

3,3-dimethylpentane < 2-methylhexane < heptane < 1-heptanol

Because the branched alkanea have lowest boling point because branched alkanes have less surface area than that od non branched alkenes and alcohols have strong H-bonding.
