Describe aspect ratio and explain how it relates to resolution. Recommend an aspect ratio for iPhone screens, iPad screens, YouTube, and laptop computer screens.

Aspect ratio is the ratio of the width of an image to the height of the image. This ratio is represented as x: y, where x is the width of the image and y is the height of the image. Aspect ratio differs from image to image based on images used in Computer applications, Television etc. Changing the aspect ratio will result in the disturbing of the image. For example, Movies with aspect ratio 16:9, are wide angle lens, which means that width of the image is almost double of its height. Television display are designed to have aspect ratio of 1.33:1, which means that the width of the TV display are 1.33 times of its height, which is almost like a square.

Old TVs with Standard channels have an aspect ratio of 4:3, HDTVs with HD channels have an aspect ratio of 16:9 and few TVs with use of watching Movies will have an aspect ratio of 21:9.

Now, all computer monitors and TVs are available in wide screens, which are with aspect ratio of 16:9. Recommended is 16:9.

Recommended aspect ratio for iPhone screens is 16:9 and for iPad 4:3.

The Resolution of an image is the number of pixels per unit of area like computer or television. When the resolution is higher, the quality of image will be good.
