The opponents of irrational numbers argued that a perfect universe, designed by the Gods, had no place for imperfect numbers. Ultimately, irrational numbers played a major role in the development of mathematics, as evidenced by their widespread use today. For example, the most famous irrational number, Pi, enables one to calculate many properties of geometric shapes.
