Tom is centering a poster on the back of a door that is 32 inches wide. The poster is 18 1/2 inches wide. How far from the edge of the door should Jimmy hang the poster? Please show work

Center point of door should be the centre point of poster.

Using consider 1-dimensional coordinate system

X = width

So, door edges are A= 0 to B=32 and it\'s center is 16 (=32/2) which should be centre of poster

i.e. corners of poster will lie at

C ={16-(18.5/2)} = 6.75 and

D ={16 + (18.5/2)} = 25.25

from edge distance = 6.75-0 =6.75 inch
