The onetoone functions g and h are defined as follows g 9 3

The one-to-one functions g and h are defined as follows. g = {(-9, 3), (2, 4), (8, 2), (9, l)} h(x) = 3x + 10 Find the following. g^-1(2) = h^-1(x) = h^-1 o h)(-5) =

Solution

g = { ( -9 , 3 ) , ( 2,4) , ( 8,2) , ( 9,1 ) }

h(x) = 3x + 10

g^-1 ( 2) = 8

to find inverse of h(x) = 3x + 10

let y = 3x + 10

switch x and y

x = 3y + 10

solving for y

(x - 10 )/ 3 = y

therefore, h^-1 (x) = (x - 10 )/ 3

( h^-1 o h ) (- 5) = ( 3x + 10 - 10 ) / 3 = 3x / 3 = x

( h^-1 o h ) (- 5) = -5

 The one-to-one functions g and h are defined as follows. g = {(-9, 3), (2, 4), (8, 2), (9, l)} h(x) = 3x + 10 Find the following. g^-1(2) = h^-1(x) = h^-1 o h)
