Many catalytic metalloenzymes and electron transport protein

Many catalytic metalloenzymes and electron transport proteins contain metal ions in highly strained geometries, while metals serving structural roles tend to have more ideal geometries. Explain, using examples, how the geometric distortion of reactive metal centers benefits the functions of such proteins

Solution

Most of protiens functions as electron transport, metal transport, Oxygen transport and bond breaking of some biomolecules etc. The metal ion contained in the protein exits in different forms such as reduced and oxidised state for electron transport function, bound and unbound state for metal and Oxygen transport function etc. The metal center to carry out these functions has to change it\'s structure from one state to other. The distortion in structure of the metal center help the protein to carry the metal to transport and also it\'s other various functions.

For example, Pastocyanin which is a electron transport protien. It exits in different structure in oxidised and reduced state.
