13. Determine if each salt will form a solution that is acidic, basic, neutral, or indeterminate. a. FeCls b. NaF c. CaBr2 d. NH4Br e. NH cIo f. Al(NO3)s B. C2HsNH3NOa h. K2CO3 i. Rbl

Solution

a) FeCl3 is an acid salt because in solution it dissociates into Fe(OH)3 is weak base and HCl a strong acid.

b). NaF is basic as it is the salt of a strong base, NaOH, and a weak acid, HF.

c). CaBr2 is neutral

d)  NH4Br is the salt of a weak base (NH3) and a strong acid (HBr), so the salt it is acidic

e)NH4ClO will dissociate in solution to form NH4+ and ClO- ions.Considering Kb is larger than Ka, therefore solution will be basic.

f) Aluminium nitrate is formed by the reaction of nitric acid(HNO3) and aluminium oxide (Al2O3). So, It is an acidic salt.

g) C2H5NH3NO3 is a salt of C2H5NH3OH a weak base and nitric acid, a strong acid. It is an acidic salt

h) K2CO3 is a basic salt from a strong base KOH and weak acid H2CO3.

i) RbI  solution is neutral.

j)C6H4NH3NO3 is an acidic salt . As it is a salt of C6H4NH3OH a weak base and nitric acid, a strong acid.

 13. Determine if each salt will form a solution that is acidic, basic, neutral, or indeterminate. a. FeCls b. NaF c. CaBr2 d. NH4Br e. NH cIo f. Al(NO3)s B. C2
