How should companies prepare themselves for security threats

How should companies prepare themselves for security threats and problems in the future? What would you expect or see as the upcoming threats?

Solution

Solution:-

Companies are facing some security threats that affects their privacy, services delivery, business plans, revenue. The security threats are classified as physical threats, cyber security threats, business and other types of threats a company generally faces. As this question is posted in computer science, so we will discuss about computer system and cyber security threats. First we discuss the major security threats and then we discuss about how to prepare a company to prevent from the security attacks and how to minimize the chance of attacks.

The major security threats are classified as below-

1) Data breach:-

Data breach is major security threats present in today\'s scenario. Companies have their important data about their revenue, business plans, employee information, financial data and other important data. If these data may leak then a company can be bankrupt or their business plans may be failed. So there can be extrem effect on the company\'s operations and services delivery.

Hackers are very eager to this type of data and they try to breach the important data.

2) Ransomware:-

Ransomware is a security threat and related to money demand for your files and data .

As you probably know, ransomware encrypts your files so you can\'t open them, and the only way to get them back is to pay a ransom.

Ransomware isn\'t just a worry for individual computers. It can lock up files on a network, which means one infection can bring down an entire company.

3) Unauthorised access:-

This is a security threat when someone make unauthorized access to our system. It means an outsider can enter the company\'s database and affects the important data. Unauthorized access can be made by hackers physically or remotely.

4) Disgruntled and careless Employees:-

The biggest threats are internal threats. Employee of a company keeps knowledge about company\'s Cyber security tools, business plans and other important information so can be a major threat to the company. And in case of a careless employee, if he leaves his system unlocked or using inappropriate Link on internet then his system can be under attack.

5) cloud services:-

Most of the companies are using cloud services today means their data travels in air or stored at some remote server so there may be threats to data that someone can access it. During the transmission hackers can access the data and they can hack the remote server.

6) Third-party Service Providers:-

In today\'s scenario most of all companies using third party services. As technology becomes more specialized and complex, companies are relying more on outsourcers and vendors to support and maintain systems.

These third-parties typically use remote access tools to connect to the company’s network, but don’t always follow security best practices. For example, they’ll use the same default password to remotely connect to all of their clients. If a hacker guesses that password then they can easily make unauthorized access to client\'s system.

So these are some major security threats present and upcoming security threats are the same as described above but with some new manner like a hacker can use a different tool or new type of malware, Ransomware, Viruses. In the upcoming time cloud services will be used by the most of the companies, so security breaches of a cloud system can be a considerable threat.

Now we discuss the how a company prevents the security attacks and prepare the action plan to minimize the security attacks.

Companies should secure their important data by encryption during a transmission. There are many encryption techniques present in the market.A company should secure it\'s database server by applying security policies. A company should keep track of the privilege accounts given to employees so some can not exploit it, and also give training to their employees about cyber security.

Companies need to validate that any third party follows remote access security best practices, such as enforcing multifactor authentication, requiring unique credentials for each user, setting least-privilege permissions and capturing a comprehensive audit trail of all remote access activity.

In case of Ransomware, it still needs your help to install. If you avoid falling for phishing emails with malicious links or downloads, you can keep ransomware off your machine.

You can also take the precaution of backing up your computer files regularly. That way, if your files do get locked, you can wipe your drive and restore your files.

As organizations adopt more effective strategies to defeat malware.A big part of the challenge with cyber attacks is how businesses think threats can be filtered at the perimeter. Attackers are aware of how to directly target users and endpoints. The industry needs to be more proactive in thinking about how to reduce the attack surface, as opposed to chasing known threats and detecting millions of unknown threats.

So by this discussion we learn about existing security threats present in today\'s scenario and some upcoming time security issues and also discussed about that how a company should prepare itself for security threats which are present at this time and which are incomong security threats.
