Before taking the class, I’ve never thought “emotional intelligence” will play such a big role in leadership. I only pay attentions to all the traits and skills but not realize it is critical for a leader. It is about knowledge and understanding about the emotional state of yourself and others. Besides that, it is capacity to integrate the experiences and to gain thus a more complete picture of life in every moment. It requires self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and social skill to respond to the requirements of the present and not simply following the patterns acquire in the past

Self-awareness is the quality to understand oneself through various self-assessment activities, awareness can be defined as the knowledge to distinguish between right and wrong, therefore self-awareness generally means the individual ability to make one\'s self-aware about any aspect. Self-confidence plays a huge role in this context because self-confidence helps a person to believe in their self and do the right things to be successful it is closely related with self-awareness because if a person is not aware of certain things then it is difficult to apply the learning\'s and knowledge. Self-awareness is influenced by the emotional qualities that each and every individual possess and it is very much necessary for the emotional growth of the individual as well.

For most of the situation, I can perceive my emotions and stay aware of them as they happen. I would say I am a calm and quite person, I wide aware that certain actions will lead to certain results. When someone is not in their right mind, they shouldn’t take any action, or conclude anything. Likely, they will regret the decision that they make.

I know my own strengths, weaknesses, thoughts and emotions. However, I find myself sometimes lack of self-confidence. It’s not like I am not sure about the solution for certain problems. But I hate that If I’m so confident in my own point of view, it can lead to inflexibility and not listening.

Self-Management - It can be stated that no individual can be successful without the quality of self-management because each and every individual need to manage himself in various points of life without which success will not be achieved. Control is the most important aspect here because the individual should possess proper control of all the emotions be it anything and he should also be well aware of his actions too. The individual needs to possess the quality of adaptation because without proper adaptation it will be difficult for him to cope with various situations that will come his way. Achievement should not impact much and change the person because no achievement is too big or too small he should learn from the mistakes and the achievements which will help him grow as a human being.

I care a lot about other people feeling. I know for fact that if I’m not in a good mood, I can’t work effectively. If I’m angry at something or someone, I immediately know that I need a quite space to calm myself down. Because, I know for fact if I keep dealing with the situation, or a person, I will say things that I shouldn’t say, do things that I didn’t mean to and eventually I will regret all of the decision that I make. Say it is easy, but to do it is way harder than I think. Even I am a calm and quite person. I found myself sometimes can’t stand certain people, especially when I know they have bad intention.

I tried hard every day to stay flexible and positive, because it will affect my behavior and my decision. But life is not that easy to stay positive all time, especially I am a person who always worry about things and future. I think a lot about negative things and I scare myself from doing certain thing. That is something I need to improve on or surround myself with positive and worry-free people.

Social Awareness - There are some social responsibilities that each and every individual should be responsible enough to execute because without that the individual becomes socially inactive. The individual should judge each and every situation by keeping himself in the situation of the other person or group and empathize the situation while taking a decision or stand. As conveyed there are some social responsibilities as well as organizational responsibilities that each and every organization expects from its employees and the individual should abide by them. This is a very important trait that individuals should possess in order to be socially active and aware.

Because of my personality I can listen and feel other people thoughts and emotions. I know what they wants and what they struggling with, I can look at their actions, their facial expression and predict about how they feel at the momment. Of course, I’m not always right. In fact, I don’t have that much experiences in life to predict everyone emotion. I feel like to master this capabilities, one must been through a lot, up and down, happy and sad, and to many different situation. If you’re not been there you will never understand how other people feel, so therefore you don’t know how to react to certain circumstainces

For the most part, I pay more attention to other people’s feeling, I want to satisfy everyone, if they’re having a bad day, I want to do something to make them feel better. If they are having difficult time, I want to share the feeling and do what I can do to help them. If I accidentally make someone unhappy or sad, I immediately feel so bad.

Social Skill - A soft skill which an employer is always looking in their employee because this skill is very much in today\'s world of doing business. Communication is the key and that can be practices only through effective communication and the individual should have the quality to influence others through his communication ability or quality. Leadership skills are very much important and good to have in an employee through which he is able to manage any conflict in the team or organization and help in forming the bond in a team. Teamwork is a desired skill today and the employers are looking for individuals who are good team players because that is what will matter in the long run of doing business. A team member should learn and also make other members enable through providing proper knowledge and the flow should continue because that helps in personal development too.

I feel like this skill is almost everything you need to deal with everything in business world. It is something I’m learning every day to become better and successful in my career. I’m not master in every single trait that social skill stated. But those traits are learnable, I believe the more experience I have, and also depends on my work environment I will be master all of the traits one day.

6 leadership styles: Coercive, authoritative, affiliative, democratic, pacesetting, coaching

Coercive leader, even though Goleman say this style is effective in some crisis situation, or working with problem employees. But since it’s so demandable, and so direct, not everyone like to go along with the leader. They will feel their time, or their strengths are not worth it. I think this leadership styles more about oneself emotional awareness. This leader only thinks about their own goals but not others. They do whatever method to reach their goal. They can also have a good social kill too but doesn’t mean they understand their own team member. Authoritative style is different in the other hand. “Come with me” whenever someone hear that, they will feel that a leader will walk with them on the path toward success. This style has capabilities self-management, social awareness as well as social skill, no wonder they have such a high impact on climate according to the article. Affiliative leadership style put people first, and I think I fall into this category the most. I think about other people’s emotions, thought more than myself. I am happy when I make people happy. Sometimes I think I need to stop being way too nice, because this world is not that nice that I would think it is. I need to pay more attention to myself as well. Democratic leadership is asking for other group member opinion, this style has capability of social skill. It helps other group member to use their values, and their strengths and apply them in certain situation. Pacesetting style is more like just “do as I do, now”. This style leader wants the group member to do what they did to ensure the result to be the same. But they don’t think about other group member goal. What if the group member does what they do and give them certain result that’s not even relate to what they want to achieve. Lastly are coaching styles, they give group member different option to choose from. And it’s up to the group member to pick that’s best for themselves. I sometimes find myself fall in this category as well. It has capabilities of social awareness and self-management.

In conclusion, I feel like if everyone become emotion intelligent, then this world is too good to be true. It’s not something one can learn that easily. It might take a person their whole life to stay aware of everything around them. I feel like It’s way too hard to practice, and I’m going to be so surprise if in this world, there someone already master all of them. I feeling like once you become emotional intelligence nothing or no one can shake your decision, your happiness. Again, to me, it’s so close to impossible to actually do it. However, I believe leader should aware of their leadership style, know the situation and apply different leadership style.
