Heat of combustion per mole depends on length of carbon chain that is more is the number of carbon atoms in the chain more will be its heat of combustion.

so in case of methanol number of carbon atoms is 1 and in case of ethanol number of carbon atoms will be 2 ,so more heat of combustion will be lliberated in case of ethanol than methanol.
