Solve for x in each of the following equations (Rational Equations by Cross Multiplying) x/9 = -7/3 x - 5/15 = 4/5 3x + 1/x - 1 = 5 x - 6/3 = -2x - 2/15

Solution

3) (3x +1)/(x-1) = 5

Multiply both sides by (x-1) , we get

(3x+1)= 5(x-1)

3x +1 = 5x -5

subtract -5x on both sides

-2x +1 = -5

-2x = -6

x = -6/-2 = 3

x=3

4) (x-6)/3 = (-2x -2)/15

15(x-6) = 3(-2x -2)

15x - 90 = -6x - 6

21x = 84

x = 84/21 = 4

x =4
