In which direction does this ion shift the equilibrium?-.ro Why? (Be specific, clearly explain the stress and the shift in the equilibrium) f. Observation when NaOH(m) was added g. What ions are formed when NaOH dissolves in water? Which ion from NaOhHty affectas h. Which ion from NaOHfa) affects this equilibrium? equilibrium? i. In which direction does this ion shift the equilibrium?Urse Why? (Clearly explain how your answer in 1-h affects this equilibrium.) 20-7 Solution
1,c, there are two reactions which take place when sulphuric acid and water react,
H2O+H2SO4 gives(reversible reaction) H3O+ + HSO4-
HSO4- + H2O gives(reversible reaction) H3O+ + SO4(2-)
hence from these two reactions its clear that two ions are formed hydronium ion (H3O+) and sulfate ion(SO4 2-)
1(d) Le Chatelier’s Principle states that “If a stress is applied to a reaction at equilibrium, the reaction will shift to offset the stress applied”. addition of H+ ions or OH- ions increases the stress.
hence H+ Ions
(g) NaOH + H2O gives Na+ + OH-
its an exothermic reaction.
two ions which are formed sodium and hydroxide ions.
According to Le Chatelier\'s principle the hydoxide ions will affect the equlibrium
