1 pts Question 41 Bromine has two naturally occurring isotopes. Bromine-79 has a mass of 78918 amu and is 50.69% abundant. What is the abundance of the other isotope? Previous Next Not saved Submit Quiz 0 5 6 7 8 9

Solution

Bromine has only two naturally occurring isotopes (Br-79 and m)

Natural abundance of Br-79 = 50.69 %

We also know that the mass of Br-79 =78.919 amu

Natural abundance of m = 100 - 50.69 = 49.31 %

Atomic mass of Bromine = 79.904 amu

79.904amu =(50.69 x 78.919+ 49.31 x m)/100 = 80.917 amu

The other isotope is Br-81 with atomic mass 80.917 amu
