To extract 1 barrel of oil from the ground requires using 01
To extract 1 barrel of oil from the ground requires using 0.1 barrels of oil and 0.1 kg of steel. To manufacture 1 kg of steel requires 0.05 barrels of oil and 0.01 kg of steel. How many barrels of oil must be extracted from the ground for a net production of 1 metric ton (1,000 kg) of steel with no oil left over at the end?
Solution
Solution: How many barrels of oil must bae extracted from the ground for net production of 1000 kg steel=?
1 kg of steel requires 0.05 barrels of oil and 0.01 kg of steel, therefore
1000 kg of steel requires 50 barrels of oil and 10 kg of steel
and now, 1 barrels of oil extrected from the ground is 0.1 barrels & 0.1 kg of steel, therefore
500 barrels of oil extrected from the ground is 50 barrels & 50 kg of steel
and now 1000-50-10=940 kg steel required 500 barrels,
1 kg steel required 500/940 barrels,
60 kg steel required 500/940*60=31.91 barrels
then total oil extrected from the ground required is=500+31.91=531.91 barrels ,
