Solution

Initial concentration of buffer= 10X

Final concentration of buffer = 1X

Final volume = 0.5L = 500mL

Let the volume of initial buffer required = a mL

Applying the formula

Initial concentration x Intial volume = Final concentration x Final volume

10 X a = 1 x 500

Therefore a = 50 mL

So 0.5 L of buffer solution with 1X concentration is prepared by taking 50 mL of original solution (10X concentration) and diluting it with 450 ml of water (To have 500 ml of buffer solution with 1X concentration)
