1) The boss say\'s you remember when business was bad last year . I had to cut everyone\'s pay by 10%, will business is better so I can raise your pay by 10%.

will that put you back where you were before the cut? is the boss correct?

2) You buy an article on sale for 20% off in locale where there is an 8% scale tax. you expected the clerk to figure the discount first and then the sales tax on the reduced price, but the clerk figured the sales tax first and then discounts on the price.

1. let say your pay was x

after 10 % cut it becomes 0.9x

now 10% is raised, new pay= 1,1*0.9x=0.99x. so iy does not put back at same pay.

2. let say price of article was x.

after sale tax price= 1.08x

now price after discount= 0.8*1.08x

both are same. so customer is not cheated.
