From the e-Activity, describe one (1) situation in your life from the past several years that required adjustment according to the Ecological theory. Discuss one to two (1-2) examples from your situation that apply to each of Bronfenbrenner’s five (5) environmental systems: microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem, macrosystem, and chronosystem.
Solution
When I deployed to Afghanistan in 2011, it took myself and my family through, what I believe was every phase of Bronfenbrenners systems of adjustment. Having to adjust to someone not being within a phone call a ways distance took some adjustment for my wife. My wife depended on me for everything, so the adjustment for her was basically learning the weekly routines and bill paying schedules and who and what to do in the case of home emergencies.
Microsystem – due to the deployment my microsystem was totally rearranged, I had to develop a new microsystem of friends, neighbors and people that I had direct contact with. This process is a must to adjust to my new surroundings and social group.
Mesosystem – My relationship with my family had some major adjustments, because I was always seen as the stronger and Mr. Fixit around the home, but new roles had to be developed by each family member to compensate for absence.
Exosystem – Right before I deployed, my wife gave birth to our son, and he mostly got to know his father through Skype, so his relationship or bond was strong wife my wife than it was with me, due to her physical presence. Even though I maintained a presence it was not an active role, so therefore it had little influence in building a relationship.
Macro system – Reading the description of the macrosystem, which is outlined in the blackboard discussion section, it did bare a resemblance of my childhood; well I would not say that my family was poor, but we got by on the bare necessities for life.
I always told my parents that I was going to succeed and make them proud of me, from the time that I graduated at the age of 17, I left home for the military and travelled the world until I was in my late thirties trying to build on my dream of success. I can truly say that hard work and determination has gotten me to where I am today. I can truly say that I am very well groomed in the business world and have built a network of associates, to where we can communicate on how to improve in our business life, financial life and in development of others as role models and corporate trend setters for the future of any business.
Chronosystem – I would say that the transition from active duty military to now the federal employment system took some adjustment. Being use to dress right dress, rules and regulations for so many years took some adjusting, especially when there are co-workers who have never served on active duty.
It does take time to adjust, well I would say more like relax and idle down from years of going from country to country, meeting strict deadlines and objective’s, too basically working an 8 hour day and not having to stress out, because the deadlines are now more manageable and the co-workers are not always barking orders.
