a. In which of the following situations is a binomial NOT an appropriate model to describe the outcome?

Select one:

a. The number of heads in three tosses of a coin.

b. The number of rainy days in a given week.

c. The number of girls in a family of 5 children.

d. The number of students present in a class of 22.

e. The number of defective computer monitors out of 7.

Can you please provide explanation as I am confused. I think Bionomial is not a correct model for any of these scenarios.

Solution

Hi my friend, remenber that Binomial you have to measure the probability of success and failure, for example:

1. the number of heads in three tosses of coin, you know the probability is 0.5 and 0.5 becouse it could be heads of queens.

2. The number of heads days in a given week, you don´t have the probability, you don´t have any information about it.

3. The numbers of girls in a family if 5 children, what is the probability to born girl or boy? the probability it could be half and half or depends of the history. but you can use it.

4. The number of defective, yes you can use it becouse you can count the number of defective and the number of correct.

So for me it is NOT an appropriate use it with letter D

I think the confusión is the phrase THE NUMBER but think about it!! Good luck!!
