There are 25 more peanuts than cashews in a can of mixed nut
There are 25% more peanuts than cashews in a can of mixed nuts. If there are 45 ounces of mixed nuts in the can, how many ounces of peanuts and how many ounces of cashews are in the can?
Use a strip diagram and explain your reasoning
Solution
as peanut is 25 % more so if total ounce of cashew is 4 then ounce of peanuts = 4 +4 *25% = 5
now we are given that there are 45 ounces of mixed nuts in the can,
now
from strip diagram ,we see that if there were total 9 ounce of mixed nut, then cashew will be 4 ounce and peanuts will 5 ounce ,but it is given that there are 45 ounces of mixed nuts in the can
hence cashew will be 45/9 * 4 = 20 & peanuts will be 5/9*45 = 25 ounce
