Which of the following is the equation of the line that has x-intercept = -2 and y-intercept = -4?

a. y = -2x - 4

b. y = 2x - 4

c. y = -2x - 4

y = - 1/2x - 4

I know y= mx+b and that b is -4, but I am confused on x intercept. I chose answer a. Is that right?

Solution

An x-intercept is a point on the graph where y is zero, and an y-intercept is a point on the graph where x is zero.

So when x is zero y = -4 in all the options

but when y = 0 we have to get x = -2, which happensonly in option y = -2x - 4

so the answer you have chosen is correct.

Which of the following is the equation of the line that has x-intercept = -2 and y-intercept = -4? a. y = -2x - 4 b. y = 2x - 4 c. y = -2x - 4 y = - 1/2x - 4 I
