Solution

We have log3 5 +log3 (2x) = 4 so that log3( 5*2x) = 4 ( as log m +log n = log mn)

or, log3(10x) = 4. Hence 10x = 34 ( on taking log to the base 3 of both sides, we get log3(10x)= log3(34)= 4log3(3) = 4).

Therefore, x = 34/10 = 81/10 = 8.1
