The rotor blades of a helicopter are 14 ft long and are rotating at 180 rpm. (a) Find the angular speed, omega, of the rotor. omega = rad/min (b) Find the linear speed, v, of a point on the tip of a blade. v = ft/min

Solution

length of blades = 14m

speed = 180 rpm

a) angular speed = 160 * 2 * pi = 320pi radians / min or 1004.8 rad / min

b) circumference = 2* pi* 14 = 28pi feet

linear speed = 160 * 28pi = 4480 pi feet / min = 14067.2 ft / min
