Calculate the formal concentration in molarity of a KCI solu

Calculate the formal concentration (in molarity) of a KCI solution if 186 g of KCI are dissolved in 500.0 mL of water. Number

Solution

Molecular weight of KCl = 74.5513 g/mol

therefore 74.5513 g of KCl required to form 1 M solution

then what is the concentration when 18.6 g of KCl is used

74.5513 of KCl = 1 M (1000 ml)

18.6 g of KCl = ?

cross mutiplying

18.6 / 74.5513 =0.2494 M in (1000 ml)

to find the concentration of KCl when 18.6 g in 500 ml of water below equation must be used

V1M1 = V2M2

where V1 = volume 1 = 1000 ml

V2 = volume 2 = 500 ml

M1 = molarlity 1 = 0.2494 M

M2 = ?

M2 = 1000 ml x 0.2494 M / 500 ml = 0.4988 M

therefore the concentration of KCl for 18.6 g in 500 ml of water is 0.4988 M ( on rounding 0.5 M)
