A voltaic cell consists of an NiNi2 halfcell and a CoCo2 hal

A voltaic cell consists of an Ni/Ni2+ half-cell and a Co/Co2+ half-cell. Calculate [Ni2+] when [Co2+] = 1.252 M and Ecell = 0.03285 V. Use Eovalues of -0.28 V for Co2+ and
-0.25 V for Ni2+

Solution

Eo=-0.25+0.28

=0.03

so,

E=Eo- (0.059/2)log([Co2+]/[Ni2+])

or 0.03285=0.03- (0.059/2) * log(1.252/x)

or x=1.564 M
