Is there a health care business such as an urgent care clinic, physician office, hospital, or pharmacy with which you (or a close family member) have used as a consumer/customer/patient that could improve its service or products? If given the opportunity, what would you tell the owner or manager about improvements that are needed?

Solution

I have experience with the hospital offering health care services and I have been there as patient to sort out my health related issues. I have issues related to the medical advice, information upon different alternatives of treatment, billing and other unethical practices. If given the opportunity, I would like to suggest following improvement in the hospital and its services:

1.   The first improvement should be the attention upon the patient care in best and cost effective ways. At present, the hospital team only suggests those ways that are costly and time-consuming so that size of the health care bill will be high with time. A proper guidance upon the different alternative methods of treatment, that are less costly, must be given to the patients.
2.   The practice of use of those medicines or materials should be followed that are less costly unless it is mandatory to use the materials that come at higher prices. The doctors use specific medicines and materials of a brand that is very costly.
3.   The practice of going for unnecessary tests, examinations and retention of the patients should be prevented to give quality in cost effective ways. It is an important consideration of ethical nature so that the hospital should focus upon the quality care, rather a medium to generate profit only.
4.   The patient privacy should be protected and due attention should be given to the consent of the patient before sharing any information regarding the patient to nay third party. It is an important consideration in building respect towards the patients who come to the hospital to cure their genuine concerns.

Above improvements will bring much needed change.
