Leadership plays a very significant role in any kind of organization whether it is a manufacturing organization or the organization involved in offering various kinds of services to its customers. If we look closely what is the real metal of leadership then we would be able to find out that leadership is a concept which is closely associated with risk taking, dynamic, creative, change, and vision. When this concept of leadership is implemented in case of Healthcare industry, leadership can be defined by American College of Healthcare Executives as” the ability of the managers to motivate the individual and organizational excellence and how well it prepare the organization to deal with the ever changing environment so that it can fulfill all of its strategic objectives and improve performance. The main role of present leadership in the organization is to facilitate hurdle free communication and striving it towards its vision and thus this becomes particularly significant in patient healthcare service to be focused more on providing more patient friendly care services.

An active participation of the top management will be required if there is an attempt to change the organizational practices to be more patient centric care services. Implementing a patient-centered model of care is greatly influenced by the manner in which planning, delivering, and evaluation is planned for patient care. The leaders of these organizations were handicapped by the following hurdles:- 1) a general resistance to change, (2) the perception that implementation would cost too much time and resources, and (3) a lack of clarity on how to initiate and maintain a culture change of this magnitude .

A research was conducted for both inpatient and ambulatory healthcare settings by The Picker Institute in 2007 which indicated that the commitment and engagement of senior leadership is the most important aspect when it comes to the patient care. While similar kinds of results were also found in other research conducted in 2011 by The Institute for Healthcare   in which it was mentioned that \"effective leaders focus the organization\'s culture on the needs of patients and families (i.e., providing care that is patient-centered, rather than provider-centered), tap into innovative ideas, and have the persistence and skills to create a patient and family-centered care culture.

If we look at the entire article, the significance of leadership in implementing the patient care is highlighted in different manner. It is the leadership which has to modify the overall aspect of patient care in the organization. It is the leadership which has to be proactive, leading from the front and decisive when it comes to the patient care philosophy to be adopted in the healthcare units.
