Explain why we can’t just use the Carnot cycle as the “ideal” cycle for powerproducing devices such as spark ignition engines.

Solution

On the pv diagram for the carnot cycle,the upper and lower curvesare very close together.As a result,this cycle has a very little area enclosed within the cycle diagram so ,very little work is done per cycle.

Also,the cycle consist 2 isothemal and 2 adiabatic process.for adiabatic,the process should be very fast,while for isothemal the process should be very slow.so this combination is practically impossible.
