During a sevenday period of Sunday to Saturday the average l
During a seven-day period of Sunday to Saturday, the average low temperature was 62 degrees. What was the low temperature on Saturday? Statement 1: The average low temperature for Sunday through Friday was 64 degrees. Statement 2: The low temperature on Saturday reduced the average low temperature for the week by 2 degrees. Which of the statements above make it possible to answer the question? Statement 1 alone is sufficient, but Statement 2 alone is not sufficient Statement 2 alone is sufficient, but Statement 1 alone is not sufficient Each statement alone is sufficient Both statements together are sufficient, but neither statement alone is sufficient Statements 1 and 2 together are not sufficient
Solution
Each statement alone is sufficient.
Statement 1: The average low temperature for Sunday through Friday was 64 degrees
No. of days from sunday to friday = 6
Total sum of temp from sun to fri = 64 x 6 = 384
Total sum of temp for sun to sat = 62 x 7 = 434
Temp of saturday = 434-384 = 50
Statement 2: The low temperature on Saturday reduced the average low temperature for the week by 2 degrees.
=> avg. temp of sun to fri = 64 - 2 = 62.
Then, by same method we get temp of saturday.
So, Each statement alone is sufficient.
