How many laterals would be required in a leachfield to serve a 5-bedroom house, if the code requires 180sq. ft. of trench per bedroom? The trench width is 2 feet and the maximum trench length is 80 feet.

Solution

Area of 5 bedroom=5*180

=900

Area of 1 trench=2*80 =160

Therefore, no of lateral=area of bedrooms/area of 1 trench

=900/160

=5.625

Therefore 6 lateral would be required.
