What are stereotypes and how do they function in an organizational setting. Are they bad for an organization?

Stereotypes are assumptions made about a group of people and are applied to individuals irrespective of their personal characteristics because of their affiliation with a certain group in an organization. In organization there are three types of stereotypes; positive, negative and neutral. Negative stereotyping prevents individual from getting to konw another person in an organizations. Moreover it prevents individuals interacting with others at workplace. Positive stereotyping , also not good for organization. however, in some cases positive comment or analysing people due to their positive gesture may motivate other group memmers to behave in a same manner at organization. At large when it comes to stereotyping, generally it is about to fixing an individual based on the group characteristic which does not create positive work environment.
