Suppose you have four possible bases: Thymine (T), Cytosine (C), Adenine (A), and Guanine (G).

a) how many three-element DNA chains are possible?

b) how many n-element DNA chains are possible?

c) a human DNA chain has 2.1 X 10^10 elements. How many human DNA chains are possible?

Solution

As there are four posssible bases there will be power 4 combinations for ech element of the DNA.

1) For three element DNA there are 34 chains.

2) For n elements n4 DNA chains are possible.

3) If a human DNA chain has 2.1 X 10^10 elements then (2.1X 10^10)4 =19.4481X1040 DNA chains are possible.
