Synthesize each from the indicated starting material and any other reagent(s): p-methoxybenzyl alcohol [p-CH3O-Ph-CH2OH] from p-bromoanisole. (Grignard reaction.) 4-Methyl-3-Penten-2-one from acetone by Aldol Condensation.

Solution

a) react with MgBr and then with formaldehyde

b) Take a stron base like tBuOH then the acetone will react with itself

c) firs react with m,m-dinitro phenyl diazonium salt and then react with methyl iodide.
