What shapes workleisure economic preferences for individuals
What shapes work-leisure (economic) preferences for individuals and households? Do preferences stay constant over time or change as we age?
Do cultural preferences about male-female roles play a part in deciding individual preferences?
How could we change preferences?(At one point in the notes-I talk about how teenage girls do more child-helping chores than teenage boys)
Look at your Budget Constraint- what are some - Fixed costs and Variable Costs on there?
Any economic advantage/disadvantage of your current household status ie single, roommate, married? Can we really study Marriage as an \"economic\" preference?
Solution
Hi, You have asked 3 questions. But, as per chegg policy, we are required to answer only first question. Thanks.
Ans 1. The work-leisure preferences are different for individuals and households. As an individual, if he is not married, then he would likely to work more and spend less time in leisure because working for more hours will give him more money which he can saves or invest for future purpose. But for a household, he might prefer more leisure as compared to an individual because now household has a family and wants to spend time with family also.
No, the preferences does not stay constant as we age. It keeps changing. If we are young, we can work more, so the preference for work is more and leisure is less. As we become old, we prefer more lesiure and less work because our body does not allow more physical work. So, the preferences changes over time.
